Call for Abstracts

ACIS 2027 invites submissions from researchers, implementers, policymakers, health professionals, community organisations, educators, students, and other professionals working to improve the adoption, delivery, scale, and sustainability of evidence-informed interventions and policies.

We welcome abstracts from three broad contributor categories:

  1. Research
  2. Implementation Practitioners
  3. Industry

Research

This category is intended for researchers, academics, students, and research teams presenting empirical or methodological work related to implementation science.

Submissions may include:

  • Quantitative, qualitative, or mixed-methods implementation research
  • Implementation science theories, frameworks, and methods
  • Health-system and policy implementation research
  • Equity-focused and community-engaged implementation research
  • Adaptation, scale-up, and sustainability research
  • Digital health and technology-enabled implementation
  • Implementation research protocols or work in progress
  • Systematic, scoping, or other relevant evidence syntheses

Implementation Practitioners

This category is intended for professionals directly involved in implementing evidence-informed interventions, programmes, policies, or services in real-world settings. Please include how the implementation was assessed and what evidence supports the lessons.

Submissions may include:

  • Experiences implementing evidence-informed interventions
  • Programme implementation and scale-up
  • Implementation strategies used in practice
  • Adaptation of interventions to local contexts
  • Implementation challenges and solutions
  • Lessons learned from implementation
  • Health-system strengthening and service delivery
  • Policy implementation experiences
  • Sustainability and institutionalisation of programmes
  • Practical innovations and approaches that have supported implementation

Submissions in this category do not necessarily need to follow a conventional research paper structure, but should clearly describe the implementation context, approach, experience or evidence, key learning, and implications for implementation practice

Industry

This category welcomes contributions from industry, technology companies, digital health companies, consultancies, and other organisations contributing to implementation science and the translation, adoption, scale-up, or sustainability of evidence-informed innovations. Please disclose funding and commercial interests. The submission must provide implementation evidence or learning; abstracts considering primarily of product promotion will not be considered.

Submissions may include:

  • Implementation of health technologies and innovations
  • Digital health implementation
  • Technology adoption and scale-up
  • Implementation of diagnostics, therapeutics, or medical technologies
  • Industry–health-system partnerships
  • Implementation challenges and lessons from product or service delivery
  • Approaches to sustainability and scale
  • Data, AI, and technology-enabled implementation
  • Methods or tools supporting implementation in real-world settings

Industry submissions should clearly demonstrate their relevance to implementation science and/or the implementation of evidence-informed health innovations.

Presentation Formats

Authors are invited to submit abstracts for the following presentation formats. Authors may indicate their preferred format during submission; however, the Scientific Committee will make the final allocation based on the submission’s quality, content, and fit within the conference programme.

Oral Presentation

A 12-minute presentation, followed by a question-and-answer session. Oral presentations may be selected from submissions that demonstrate a clear contribution to implementation science, practice, policy, or innovation and provide sufficient evidence, findings, or learning to support a substantive presentation.

Lightning Talk

A concise 5-minute oral presentation highlighting a key finding, emerging idea, implementation experience, methodological innovation, or practical lesson. This will be followed by a question-and-answer session.

Lightning talks may be particularly suitable for:

  • Research in progress
  • Early-stage implementation research
  • Emerging findings
  • Innovative implementation approaches
  • Programme or practice-based experiences
  • Case studies
  • Novel methodological or theoretical ideas
  • Lessons learned from implementation challenges or adaptations

Poster Presentation

A visual presentation of completed or ongoing research, implementation initiatives, programme experiences, or methodological work. Poster presenters will be expected to be available during designated poster sessions to discuss their work and respond to questions from participants.

Abstract Submission Requirements

General Requirements

  • Word limit: Abstracts must be a maximum of 300 words, excluding the title, author names, and affiliations.
  • Format: Abstracts should be submitted through the official online abstract submission system.
  • Abstracts should not include tables, figures, graphs, images, or references, unless otherwise specified by the conference organisers.
  • Abstracts should present sufficient information to allow reviewers to understand the purpose, approach, key findings or expected contribution, and relevance to implementation science.

Information Required During Submission

The submission form will request the following information:

Title

The title should be:

  • Concise and informative
  • Specific to the work being presented
  • Reflective of the study, implementation experience, or contribution

Authors and Affiliations

Please provide:

  • Full name of each author, in the order in which they should appear
  • Institutional affiliation and country for each author
  • Corresponding author
  • Presenting author
  • Up to two affiliations per author, where applicable

Main body

Authors are encouraged to structure their abstracts using the following headings. The specific structure may be adapted depending on the nature of the submission.

  • Background and objectives: Briefly describe the health, programme, policy, or implementation problem being addressed. Explain why the issue is important and state the study or implementation objectives.
  • Methods or implementation approach: Describe the study design, methods, implementation approach, setting, population, intervention, implementation strategies, or other relevant methods. For practice- or programme-based submissions, describe the approach taken and how implementation was assessed.
  • Results or lessons learned: Present the main findings, including relevant quantitative or qualitative results, implementation outcomes, experiences, or lessons learned. For ongoing studies or implementation initiatives, clearly indicate the current stage of the work and any findings available to date.
  • Conclusion and implementation implications: Summarise the key contribution of the work and its implications for implementation practice, health systems, policy, research, or future implementation efforts.
  • Relevance to Implementation Science: Briefly explain how the submission contributes to implementation science and/or the implementation of evidence-informed interventions, programmes, or policies.
